I want my first post to start the year to be on procrastination. If I forget (because I'll probably be really dazed and confused tomorrow) please remind me! Thank y'all! (yes, I had to say "y'all". It's fun. You should try it sometime.)

Hello! I'm a bit tired, but I'm posting anyway.
So. I just came back from Quebec. All I have to say is... WOW. It was a bit strange. I mean, 3/5 of the words I saw was French, and the other 2/5 was English. It gets to be a bit confusing in the beginning, but I got used to it. I got to see a lot of interesting tourist sights. I will post all about it at a later date, but right now, I have to work on something. The full post will probably be up in a week or so. Until then! :) P.S. I will be posting some pictures in Quebec sometime, so be on the lookout for those too! Hey everyone, be sure to check out my "Book Reviews" section! Thanks!
So, I'm probably going to keep randomly posting things in this section and in the "Howls" section, despite the previous post. I guess I REGULARLY post when school starts. Be sure to check all of the sections for new posts!!
Okay. So my dad FINALLY got my computer fixed, and I got a Chromebook (if you don't know what it is, it's pretty much a laptop. Well, they say that "It's not a laptop. It's the Internet." That's debatable. Lots of things on the Chromebook are not internet-related. Anyways...) for school. I have decided to start posting again on September 4th, or when school starts for me. So hang in there for a bit more, and thanks for sticking with me when technology fails! :D P.S. I have begun my Doctor Who phase. I am currently completely obsessed with it.
P.P.S. That's the 11th doctor. P.P.P.S. Two more weeks! P.P.P.P.S. I'M GOING TO HIGH SCHOOL! :D P.P.P.P.P.S. That's a lot of "P"s. :) Sorry for not posting anything for so long. No, I have not ditched blogging. Trust me, I try to get on, but currently, my computer has been having problems. So, it's all weird and I can't edit anything. I'm using a different computer at the moment, one that I normally do not have access to, so that's why I could post this. I think that I can get back to blogging as soon as the problem is fixed, but until then, you just have to sit tight and wait. Again, I apologize for the lack of posts in the last week. :(
"It's too late to apologize..." This song's about how two people start off in a relationship, but then Person #1 does something wrong, but doesn't apologize, and after a few more mistakes Person #2 had enough, so they just break it off. When Person #1 starts apologizing because they wanted to stay together with Person #2, Person #2 says, "It's too late to apologize." It pretty much means that you have to own up to your own mistakes before it's too late. You have to be responsible, and if you do something wrong and just pretend it never happened, chances are, it won't affect you much, but it probably hurts/changes someone else's life. Also, a simple "sorry" isn't always enough. You have to actually mean it. Have you ever read a book so good, sad, or happy it made you cry? I have.
What book made me cry? The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Because what made me cry is a spoiler, the rest of this post will be hidden under the "Read More" sign. If you have read the book, please feel free to read the rest of this post. If you haven't read this book, you should most DEFINITELY read it. Then you can come back and read the post. If you haven't read the book, and you aren't planning to, well you're missing out on a lot. "If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?"
I think that if you try to fail, but you succeed, you actually succeeded failing, so you must have succeeded, because you achieved what you wanted to do, right? Oh, paradoxes.
But you should never try to fail. Always try to succeed, and you'll get there one day!
It's the 4th of July. I know. Time does whiz by without anyone noticing. Happy 4th of July! 238 years ago (I did the math) our founding fathers drew up a document that represented our freedom, and a new life. This document is also known as the Declaration of Independence. I knew that much. But then I began to wonder: "Why are there fireworks to celebrate this day of freedom?" Well, after a bit of research, I found out that John Adams (not John Quincy Adams) wanted there to be festivities like this on the 4th of July! He wanted games, sports, bells, fireworks, and many more exciting events to happen during a day of such joy. As the years grew on, these festivities became more and more popular, until it turned into what we have today. Fireworks make bright and bold statements in the sky. They light up the night for a few seconds, but afterwards, behind our eyes, we can still see some of its shape. Their explosions can be heard for miles around, announcing America's proud moments, and what measure were taken to achieve those moments. Be proud America! So, as you may know, a few of my friends have blogs. They, unfortunately, do not many viewers. You should go check them out! Here are a list of their blogs and what you're missing out on!
Adonia @ The Stone Table: There's always something interesting on her blog. Whether it's Disney related or a rant about something, there is always something interesting. She also has a page called the "Lamp Post". I'm not going to tell you what it's about. If you want to know what it is, go check it out yourself! :) Ana @ Butterflies of the Imagination: Oh, Ana, where to even begin? Well, I'll start off saying that she's an amazing athlete, student, and blogger. Her posts are full of energy, and she DEFINITELY puts time and effort into each and every one of her posts. Ana was the person who got me into blogging by the way. Many thanks to her! Catherine @ Cat the Ailurophile: Though she hasn't posted in a while, and I hope she will post something soon, but she's still there! She has this adorable story about a cat, so if you are a cat lover, and you are in need of a good story, go to her blog and read her story! You won't be disappointed. Dreamer @ The Thoughts of a Dreamer: These posts are MUST READS. And I don't mean, just skim over it. I mean READ THEM. They include her writing pieces, her thoughts, her feelings, and her words. No one else's but her own. Go take a look, because it will absolutely be worth your time. Iris @ Purple Lambs Will Fly: My spastic, weird, artistic, amazing friend. Ah. She loves purple lambs. And dragons. And about every mystical creature there is. Her posts have a lot about gardening, so if you have gardening issues, go to her blog! She specializes in air plants, and there are a lot of cool pictures of them. GO CHECK THEM OUT!!!!!!!!! Oh soccer and all of its fancy footwork. I can do all that... Pfft. I'm not lying... Okay, yes I am. I can't play soccer for my life. I would just trip all over myself. But I have learned how to play defense against someone who DOES know how to play soccer though... You see, when you play a sport, and you get good at it and you play people that are at your skill level, you get used to those people. You get accustomed to their fakes, their charges, their fancy tricks. But what happens if you play against people who are a higher skill level? Well, obviously you'd lose, right? No, that is not necessarily true. You may actually win. You see, those people also got used to playing people in their general skill level. Now, unless if both teams/players knew all the moves for that sport, just that one team could not perform well while doing some move, but the other one can, that's a different issue. In my school, we had this soccer tournament thing between the language classes. It was my class (the French class, which had no soccer players) versus the German class (which had, like, 10 soccer players). So, while most of the girls sat out of the game, I stayed in and played. I decided on playing defense, since I am so horribly clumsy sometimes. I am fast, just that I can't kick a ball, keep it in my possession, and keep running easily. Anyways, when I actually had to do something, I was honestly scared. Everyone said that this kid, that was coming at me, played soccer and that he's one of the best. He started doing these fancy tricks in front of me, faking left and right, while I just followed along so he couldn't get to the goal. I didn't do any fancy tricks. I just watched his feet. He was doing this one trick, and the ball went further away from him. I saw my chance and took it. I dodged him, stole the ball, ran and kicked it down to the offenders. The kid just gave me this incredulous stare, like he couldn't believe that I just stole the ball from him. Heck, I could believe it myself! So, in the end, our French class lost 2-1. Pretty good game though, in my opinion, since no one on my team knew how to play soccer. I won my battle, but we lost the war. But I just wanted to say that sometimes, if you ARE playing against a better team, they might expect more than a little dodge. So they prepare for the difficult stuff, while all you can do is the simple stuff. It's when you attack in an unexpected way, when you would win. Well, even if I can't play it, I can watch soccer. Sadly, the US team is out, but I can't wait to watch Brazil play! Recently, I have heard the song, "Me and My Broken Heart" by Rixton, and I am just completely obsessed with it. At first I thought it was by Maroon 5, because it kind of sounded like Adam Levine, but when I found out that it wasn't him I was like, "Say whaaaa?" Anyways, I think that the song's meaning is completely self explanatory. No, this week, instead of talking about the meaning of this song, I want to talk about its musical composition. I just have to say before I actually begin, I LOVE Jake Roche's voice (he's the lead singing of Rixton). Okay. Let's do this. In the beginning, I really like the simple, but strong, piano chords in the background. And then all of the other instruments (percussion, guitar, etc.) come in during the second part of the chorus. That's pretty intense. I also like how the chorus, pre-chorus, and bridge are all legato (or smooth), but the syllables in the verses all have a little staccato to them (or they all sound a little detached). It makes the song sound more energetic. The percussion in the background of the whole song is always adding more energy too. And I just like these kind of songs. Oh yeah, and you may have noticed all these GIFs. Yeah, those moving picture thingies. I've officially fallen in love with them, so expect an avalanche of them in the future! :)
You know how all those teachers are saying, "You have to show not tell!" You'd better listen up!
"Showing" and not "telling" is much more difficult than the name suggests. When you "tell", you bluntly state that something's happening. But when you "show" you insert clues to make your reader infer what happened. Though, you can't just put in one clue and expect your reader to know what you are talking about. Don't expect your reader to be a mind reader. Because they/we/the readers aren't. For example: Telling: The girl was scared. Showing: The girl trembled as the shadow inched closer. She shut her eyes, not wanting to see the shadow. Cold sweat ran down her back and she curled up tighter around herself. Okay. I know there were a lot of cliches, and that wasn't the best example, but you can tell that the girl is scared. Never did I directly say in the "showing" section that the girl was scared, so. There you go. Showing and not telling could dramatically improve your writing. It makes your writing more interesting, and the reader doesn't feel, for lack of better words, stupid. When you tell the reader EVERYTHING, they kind of feel like you think that they can't figure anything out for themselves. They WANT to guess what happens next. They WANT to infer on certain details. Showing, not telling adds in a lot of imagery details too. The writer, if they have not already, could get a better feel for what the characters are thinking, how they are reacting, what they are like, etc. The writer could also picture the characters' environments better. Though showing not telling is a great skill to use, it isn't always appropriate to use it. For example, if you are writing a recipe, you don't want your reader to wildly guess at what ingredient should go in where. That could actually be dangerous. Anything including steps really shouldn't have any "showing not telling". As EVERYONE knows, the Fifa World Cup is occurring right now! Okay. Soccer (as we crazy Americans call it), or football (what all the normal people of the world call it) is, like, the sport to play right now. I think I may have Fifa fever since I really want to kick something right now... Those goals... Just... There were quite a few amazing ones. Okay. Okay. I know. You want to know what the QOTW is. Well, here it is! "I am constantly being asked about individuals. The only way to win is as a team. Football is not about one or two or three star players." Sorry. I just... HAD to do that.
Okay. Back on track. I chose this quote this week because it demonstrates that life is about cooperation and working together. For example, if you are working on a project with someone else, you can't just do all the work because you are "the smarter one". You have to work with your partner to make that project the best it could be. Same with soccer. If (it was allowed) you only put in the few star players against another team, the team with the few star players would obviously lose, because #1 they would tire quickly and #2 no one is there to assist them in defense or offense. Trust me. When people play some game with the teams being one person versus five, that one person would easily lose, unless if you're playing a twisted game in which you are trying to get your teammates out... But anyways, you all get the point, I hope. So work together! Don't be afraid to talk to your teammates or your partner! Cooperation and working together always creates something beautiful. Did you know, that it takes SIXTEEN muscles to smile, but SEVENTY TWO to frown? Well, now you do.
I don't think it takes a genius to figure out which is easier to perform (smiling of course!). So why use more energy to move those frowning muscles to, well, frown? I know, I know, it's difficult to hold that smile for a minute for picture day. It's quite painful. I know. But if you smile, you actually get happier. Try smiling when you're upset. It helps a lot. I honestly don't know why. It just... Works. Also, there's a quote that I think I remember it's something along the lines of "every minute that you frown is a minute of happiness you will never get back." So don't frown. Frowning is bad. Yeah. Say no to frowning. I was trying to improve at long jump today. I tried a bunch of different things: getting a longer run up, placing my feet in this position and that position, reaching out my legs, etc. But nothing worked!
I went on a few websites to see what they say would help. Apparently, there's a certain amount of strides that I have to take! I didn't know that! I have to take under 15 strides before I run. I guess that's to get the optimum speed at the right time. There also styles of landing! Say what now...? Okay. I'm just going to read more websites. I'm going to learn more about this stuff. Maybe I'll switch out 200m for long jump... Hm... Sorry for the short post today and the lack of posts for the last few days. I promise to do as much as I could! I'm really trying, but I get home at, like 6-ish, and then there's dinner, and a bunch of things I'm dragged off to do when I wanted to do was post. Not fun. And the blood will dry, underneath my nails, and the wind will rise up, to fill up my sails...
Doesn't sound too familiar, now does it? Well, does this help? I'm coming home, I'm coming home, tell the world I'm coming home... Pretty blunt, I know. :) It's Skylar Grey's version of the song, "Coming Home". I think that this version is quite beautiful by itself. It means that no matter what difficult obstacles there are, everything could get better, and that your "kingdom awaits". You should never lose hope. You just have to look forward to the next day, for the next sunrise, for the next new year. People may doubt you, but you should just ignore them. Skylar Grey says that you should just "let the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday", meaning that you should let go of some things sometimes. I chose this song for this week for personal reasons. I just felt like it was... Right. I'm coming home. This isn't limited to literature. It applies to any situation in which you have to credit the author for their work, or else you would be considered plagiarizing. You know what the procedure is: find the author's first and last name, blah, blah, blah. I know. Bibliographies are a bore. But would you rather just take a bit of your time to write one, or would you rather spend a lot of time convincing the original author that you weren't plagiarizing? (I would go with the first choice!)
I think that bibliographies are very important. Everyone knows that quote by Picasso, "Good artists borrow great artists steal", but that doesn't necessarily mean that the "great artist" wouldn't be punished for stealing! Bibliographies are a sign of respect, that you acknowledge the person the information is from. By just copying and pasting facts for one of your pieces without noting the fact that that information came from others... That's just... Not cool man, not cool. So, kids, write your BIBS! You know how everyone's always like, "YOU GOTTA KEEP TRYING!" and such? Well, W.C. Fields has something to say about that... “If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it.” This quote is pretty close to: "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." So I guess it's the QUOTES of the week then.
These two quotes mean that if you're failing at something hopelessly and getting the same results every time, you should just stop wasting your time and give up whatever you're doing, or try something different. If you continued whatever you were doing, you would receive little to no change in your results, even if you try REALLY hard. In other words, they're trying to say that if it's too hard, whatever "it" may be, just give up. I know. "Real inspirational". But it's true! Wise up children! On Wednesday, school ended. I GRADUATED EIGHTH GRADE! YAY!
And, yes. I know it's cliche but I have to say this. WHAT TIME IS IT, IT'S SUMMERTIME! :D Does that mean that finally, there is no HW, that finally, there are no times of boredom? Sadly, no. :( I found out that only Honors literacy students have summer reading. Makes me feel a bit sad. Because we have to write six pages worth of literacy stuff. But I think that it is good that we have this assignment. Haha. I'm in Honors literacy and I still use the words "stuff" and "good". Yeah... My brain is kind of sort of on vacation right now... Anyways, I believe that, no matter how painful it is, all students should get summer HW in every subject. This would keep the mental status of students up, and when school starts again, teachers wouldn't have to spend days, weeks, or even months trying to get their students to remember what they learned in previous years. It's a pain to those that do remember, and it is a waste of precious time! Imagine how much smarter and how much more in depth classes could get if everyone remembered everything. People would become smarter, helping those individuals and the society as a whole. I'm talking about more advancements in the future peeps! No one wants our society to become lazy (or lazier) and dim-witted (or dumber). That would not be good for the world! There are already many who believe that school is stupid and a complete waste of time, and they skip classes/school, don't try and fail their classes, and etc. I disapprove of this behavior, but it happens! Behavior also becomes more inappropriate during the summer because there are only a few rules to abide by. Summer homework could remind students that although there aren't any teachers watching over them every second of their lives for three months or so, they should still watch their behavior and work hard. I know. I'm such a nerd. But I mean, honestly, I'm a bit frightened of what our society will become when our generation takes over. The world I'm imagining is NOT so great. We could turn that horrible future into something brighter one step at a time. A baby step would be summer homework! Okay. Pep talk of the day is done. I'm out peeps! So, some people run (long distance) with music on. Does that improve your running?
Well, depends on the type of person you are. If you like slow music and will not listen to anything BUT slow music, your running probably would not improve much. On the other hand, if you only listen to crazy fast music, you would tired out very quickly if you try to move your legs to that tempo. You should find music that matches your pace, if you like music that is. For me, music is a distraction from the pain of my muscles. Although, when I do feel like singing it out loud, I find that it troubles my breathing, which makes me tire quickly. No, I do not like that when it happens. If you are wondering whether you should try running with music or not, just try it at some sort of practice, or when you're running by yourself. Don't try it at a race, because you don't want to worsen your time if it doesn't work. I realized that it is easy to run with a partner too, so if you're trying to improve your running, grab a running buddy who's about the same pace as you! Sorry this is up so late! I just got home and I was like, I GOTTA POST SOMETHING, so here I am.
The SOTW is "Skinny Love" originally by Bon Iver, but redone by Birdy. Both versions are pretty cool. If you haven't listened to the song yet, YOU TOTALLY SHOULD! Anyways, I think that this song is about just holding onto what you got. In the song, it says "Come on skinny love". I think that means that this love is really delicate, and any little outburst would break it. After the first verse, it seems like the love did break, when it states, "And I told you to be patient/And I told you to be fine/And I told you to be balanced/And I told you to be kind" meaning that the other person abused the love, and the first person wanted to keep loving and holding on, but they realized that they cannot go through all this pain. So they let go. But I say, JUST KEEP HOLDING ON! (Hint hint at the SOTW next week!) Thank you Emily from For the Bookish for nominating me for the LIEBSTER AWARD! Thanks a million (is that even possible? Well, if it wasn't I just made the impossible possible). Okay. I honestly really don't know how this works, but I'm following the rules. Oh. Speaking of rules... Here they are! So. 11 facts about myself. 1. I am really bad at these kinds of "listing things about yourself" things. 2. I'm a weirdo and I like being a weirdo. There's no normal if there's no weirdness! 3. I love music. I love singing, often annoying the people around me by singing obnoxiously loudly... I love playing the violin and piano, normally just randomly playing, but it's fun so, yeah! I love listening to music, and I get in trouble for listening to music sometimes... 4. I love art. I've been taking art classes for... Geez, I don't even know how long. About 5 to 6 years maybe? I recently started oil painting, and I am PROUD. 5. I love athletics. I play, for fun and/or for a team, volleyball, racquetball, and Ultimate Frisbee. I figure skate, run for cross country, and do track and field. I think I like track and field the most. I don't really know. 6. I have a ton of mottos, but currently, it is "Just take a straw and suck it up." 7. Poetry is a way for me to vent. If I'm angry or sad, or just feeling downright pessimistic, I write poetry instead of making dents in the wall (it's more money efficient and doesn't hurt physically as much). 8. My favorite color... You know what, I like all of the colors of the spectrum. Even the ones I can't see. This world would be nothing if there was a single color that was missing. But I favor some blues, oranges, yellows, and greens. 9. I have a low heat tolerance. I have a high cold tolerance. Anything hotter than 85 degrees Fahrenheit is too hot. Humidity is my most hated foe. That's why the order of my favorite seasons are: Winter, spring, fall, summer. 10. My favorite number is 9, and my life revolves around the number 9. 11. Frozen is the best movie of the world to me. To answer your questions, Emily... Question and Answer to #1 Q: Do you have a pet? What's your favorite animal? A: No, I don't have a pet, unless if younger siblings count. My favorite animal is the wolf. Independent and dependent. Just like me. Or I'm just like them... Question and Answer to #2 Q: Have a favorite childhood book? A: The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is by far my favorite childhood book. I keep reading it over and over, and each time, the meaning gets deeper and deeper. When I was little, I just thought that the caterpillar turned into a butterfly. I didn't think past that. Oh, the things I didn't realize when I was younger. I technically still am a child, but I mean... Question and Answer to #3 Q: Favorite pastime, besides reading or writing? A: I have many favorite pastimes other than reading/writing. If the weather's nice, I like to just go out and, well, play! If the weather isn't nice, I just stay inside and draw, practice my instruments, or just eat. You have to LOVE eating. Question and Answer to #4 Q: Favorite color? Would you dye your hair this color for a million bucks? A: I like all the possible and impossible colors, but my "favorite" is this goldish orange. Like the orange at sunrise and sunset. No, I would not dye my hair that color for any amount of money. *shivers* Unless if was just the tips of my hair. Then that would be fine. My teacher dyed her hair neon orange. Let me just say: It did not end well. *shivers again* Question and Answer to #5 Q: Is there a song that could be the soundtrack to your life? A: Actually, yes. Either "Human" by Christina Perri or "Titanium" by David Guetta ft. Sia. I mean, I'm only human! But those harsh criticisms and rude comments from others don't affect me as much anymore. Question and Answer to #6 Q: Could I see a picture of your handwriting? A: Yes. Yes you could. :) Question and Answer to #7
Q: What is your favorite social media site? (Links, please?) A: Facebook! It's up at the top in the very top right corner. I haven't used it in quite a while though... Question and Answer to #8 Q: What is your favorite word? A: My favorite word, at the moment, is evanescence. Question and Answer to #9 Q: What’s your favorite food? Do you like ice cream?? A: My favorite food is ice cream. And yes, I like ice cream. :) FUN FACT Some ice creams have seaweed in it! Okay. Back to answering questions... Question and Answer to #10 Q: Have you ever read a book you absolutely hate? A: Not yet, but who knows! Maybe that will happen one day! *knocks on wood* Question and Answer to #11 Q: What are a couple of your major life goals? A: I hope to be noticed for my poetry one day. I also hope that I will have a good-paying job that I enjoy, because I don't want to be one of those people who hates their job. I want a job that I could look forward to. That job would help me earn enough money to lead an average or above average life. Another one of my major life goals is to be able to live with no regrets. I don't want to do something right now, when I'm so young, and regret it when I'm older. Leading a life of regret is NOT good. Taking risks is good, but there's a fine line between taking too much of a risk and taking a safe risk. Wait. The question says a couple... Couple meaning two... Well, a gave a few! Oops! :D And now for the nominating of the 9. Haha. Nine. Yep. I told you all that my life revolves around the number 9! Anyways... Drum roll please! 1. Ana at Butterflies of the Imagination 2. Adonia at The Stone Table 3. (Anonymous) at The Thoughts of a Dreamer 4. Iris at Purple Lambs Will Fly 5. Stephanie at Crazy Little Love Birds 6. Athelas at Red Lettering 7. Samantha at Bookish Serendipity 8. (Everyone) at Ravens and Writing Desks 9. Kaycee at The Pink Cave Last but not least, here are the 11 questions for the people I have nominated! 1. What are your goals for the future? Rate them from most important to least important! 2. Do you think you will be blogging 20 years from now? 3. If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Why? 4. Would you rather be poor but happy, or be rich but sad? 5. What is your favorite book in the whole world at this moment? 6. THINK FAST! THERE'S A PURPLE PEGASUS FLYING TOWARDS YOU. WHAT DO YOU DO? 7. What is the dumbest injury you have received? (Mine is a scar that received 5 stitches because I jumped off, but caught my leg on, some bleachers. XD ) 8. Have you ever watched Frozen? If you have, what is your favorite song from that movie? 9. Cats or dogs? 10. Favorite sport? 11. Why did you start blogging? Now I'm off to tell those people about their nominations of the Liebster Award! Thanks again Emily! As promised last week, I will be talking about why poems are awesome.
Yep. Poems are awesome. Is it that hard to believe? Poems help you release your emotions. Personally, I find it easier to represent myself with poems instead of essays and the like. When you're upset or exceptionally positive, poems capture your how you feel. It's like a memory is encased into the poem if you write it at a certain time or event. You not only remember the event, you remember the actual things running through your head, the feelings bursting through your veins, your surroundings, and whatever else you incorporate into your poems. They are also interesting to read. If you just loose yourself in the poem, you may actually feel what the author felt, what the author wanted to express. The feelings, the environment, etc. could be observed just by paying attention to the details of the poem. How do you do this? It's simple. You read each line, slowly, noticing the figures of speech, the adjectives, nouns, verbs, and trying to find the tone of the poem. Sometimes these factors are subtle. Sometimes they are obvious. You just have to look. Oftentimes, you would have to read a poem multiple times to find all of the meanings and details of the poem. But hey, it isn't that torturous! You may actually enjoy it! And poems are still awesome. Go read one and practice what I just taught you! I have quite a few in the "Howls" section of my blog (I haven't posted any new poems - the new ones will be in the poems section). |
