This isn't limited to literature. It applies to any situation in which you have to credit the author for their work, or else you would be considered plagiarizing. You know what the procedure is: find the author's first and last name, blah, blah, blah. I know. Bibliographies are a bore. But would you rather just take a bit of your time to write one, or would you rather spend a lot of time convincing the original author that you weren't plagiarizing? (I would go with the first choice!)
I think that bibliographies are very important. Everyone knows that quote by Picasso, "Good artists borrow great artists steal", but that doesn't necessarily mean that the "great artist" wouldn't be punished for stealing! Bibliographies are a sign of respect, that you acknowledge the person the information is from. By just copying and pasting facts for one of your pieces without noting the fact that that information came from others... That's just... Not cool man, not cool.
So, kids, write your BIBS!
