It is once again time for the SOTW!
The song for this week is a really sad, really really, well composed song.
It's "The A Team" by Ed Sheeran.
The song for this week is a really sad, really really, well composed song.
It's "The A Team" by Ed Sheeran.
The song is about a girl addicted to drugs who is broke after high school. She is struggling to pay rent, and to make money she, well, sleeps with men who also deal drugs to her. She doesn't like doing that, and she hates her life. She "doesn't want to go outside tonight" because "it's too cold outside for angels (being her) to fly." She wants to give everything up and start anew, but the world doesn't work like that. It's too much and too cruel for her, so she takes one last and heavy dose, "closes her eyes", and "hopes for a better land". We learn that even "angels die." The irony being that the thing that brought her down was the only release from the world for her.
Towards the end of the song, Ed Sheeran stops saying "she don't wanna go outside tonight." Instead, he said "we don't wanna go outside tonight." He wanted to represent all of those who are poor, addicted to drugs, and people in difficult positions.
Share small acts of kindness. If you see someone struggling out there, or even within your circle of friends, family, neighbors, etc., you should help out. Hug them. Talk to them. Nod to them. Acknowledge them with a smile. I'm not saying that you should just go up to a random stranger and tell them everything about you. That would be... Bad, to say the least. No, I mean, just ask an "are you okay" sort of question. Carry a dollar or two to give to the poor. I know, you want your money because it's YOURS. But think about them. They're poor. They may not even have a house, family, friends, and they're all "alone."
Or you don't even have to do that. Smile at those in your school. Say "how are you" or "have a good day!" to someone.
I challenge everyone who read this post to perform an act of kindness today.
